Sudden cardiac arrest in seemingly healthy athletes is rare, but can occur if there is underlying disease such as: cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, Long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome or heart birth defects. Unfortunately there is no one test that can predict sudden cardiac arrest in athletes. Thankfully, resuscitation is very common and easy treatment to stablilize the athlete.
