High pressure blood "shooting out" on the top of the foot is highly suggestive of a cut in an artery. It sounds like it stopped on its own. Arterial structure is such that they can spasm to reduce blood loss. This should be evaluated by a physician to ensure no residual problems to blood flow to the toes. If it recurs before you can get medical eval, hold direct pressure to stop the bleeding.

You injured a blood vessel such as a digital artery and it needed compression, clean area with peroxide and dress daily with topical Antibiotic ointment, I would keep it covered if you wear closed shoes with a bandage and open at night in order for a scab to form.
