Ear pressure/tension: Is a common complaint w tmj. Muscles are related intimately w the "pop" during open/close. Muscle improvement usually coincides w decreased jaw popping unless joint damage has occurred w ligaments/joint disk assembly. Seek splint therapy. Get your ears checked to rule out ear issues.

Very Possible!: The jaw joint region is one of the most complex in the human body. Due to the interaction of muscles, ligaments, bones and nerves coursing through this area, many confusing symptoms can be experienced. A well-trained, comprehensive dentist can usually ease pain and clicking/popping symptoms with simple, bite related oral appliances.

Possibly: Tmj disorders are tough--with many causes and a large range of symptoms. If your cause is muscular in origin, the symptoms should subside with splint therapy and anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen. The 'pop' is likely a dislocated disk, like a slipped disk in the back, that the jawbone pops on and off of. See a TMJ trained dentist to get a diagnosis to prevent irreparable damage.
