Herpes usually produces vesicles that rupture to reveal a raw area. If you get painful lesions in the genital area, your doctor can prescribe anti-viral medication that can limit the outbreaks and symptoms. Let your sex partners know of you HSV status. The IgM HSV blood test is very inaccurate, often giving false positive results. STD and herpes experts never request or recommend it. You might have HSV1 or 2, but not necessarily. Have a repeat blood test, IgG; do not repeat the IgM. When you have the IgG results, find a doctor who understands herpes (an STD or infectious diseases expert) to interpret the results.
