"Bumps in the pubic area" may not be herpes, and could represent human papilloma viral lesions (HPV). IgM positives for herpes I/II confirms the presence of recent herpes infection/outbreak.

Bumps are nonspecific and do not confirm anything. A positive IgM test, without any other data, does not prove that you have a new herpes infection -- it could represent an infection you had in the past. You should also have an IgG test done. If the IgG is also positive, you almost certainly do not have a new herpes infection. A positive IgM test alone is more likely to be a new infection.
