Good morning doctors. as of this morning, new york city public schools are scheduled to reopen fully on september 13th with only in-person learning and no remote learning. in your opinion, is this/will this be safe? is it too early to decide now?

In my opinion, with dissemination of vaccines, it is appropriate to reopen schools and get the kids back on track. This is not only appropriate but very safe. If you wish to isolate yourself inside and wear a mask, it is your choice.

Agree with Dr Machinac. Here are some statistics to further help you. As of April 21, 2021: death rate for children ages 0-17 is 0.015%. Comparing that to other causes of death for persons under 17yrs old: Car accidents 2.3%, Suicides 1.8%, lightening strikes 0.013%. Given all the precautions being taken by the teachers and staff at the school, your child is exceptionally safe.
