Excess ear wax can cause pain/ itching. Insertion of a finger or "Q-tip" can cause inflammation leading to abnormalities in nerve conduction which can cause tinnitus intermittently . Get a referral to an ENT physician for an exam, imaging, and possible treatment.

Unilateral (one ear) tinnitus requires a full clinical audiogram, and ear MD (otology/ENT) evaluation and possible imaging of nerves to inner ears to check for inner ear nerve abnormal growth.
