A 56-year-old male asked:

I heard at high temperature olive oil looses its nutritional value. then does it become like any other vegetable oil or there are still some health benefits in cooking in olive oil even at high temperatures?

Two issues with cooking with olive oil. High temperatures can cause alteration in chemistry, producing some toxic deterioration. But a more imminent issue is the tendency for high temperatures to cause the oil to catch fire, as it has a relatively low flare point.

Extra virgin olive oils are being used to make popcorn. Fire is very hot but a relatively short time. Difficult to determine unless tested.
