Radiologists use a variety of descriptive phrases, some more precise than others. Doctors who know and work with that particular radiologist may know his or her precise meaning. A “more defined vascular picture” has no meaning for me without the rest of the report and the patient history. The physician who ordered the chest X-ray may better answer that question or the radiologist himself.

First we must be sure that the patient was standing & a good deep breath was taken, especially if no heart enlargement was noted. Prominent vascular pattern on chest xray can be seen with left ventricular dysfunction or mitral valvular regurgitation. A cardiology consultation is recommended to fully evaluate the patient with true overly prominent vasculature on chest x-ray.
