Post-op pain control: After surgery, patients will usually use pain medications recommended by the surgeon. This may include an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen and a narcotic such as vicodin or percocet. The goal is using enough pain medication to help with the pain but one that minimizes any side effects. Narcotics will often cause constipation, so using a stool softener during this time may be helpful.
