Today i noticed i have smooth patches on my tongue about 3-4 varied in different sizes this is the second time it has happened this year, mucus has also increased giving me a hard time swallowing at times what could this be? should i be concerned?

You probably have geographic tongue (Erythema Migrans), it is a benign condition that rarely causes discomfort. The increase in mucous sercreion may not be related. This is not something to worry about, but when you have symptoms you miht want to have your dentist take a look so that you are sure everything is alright.
