Cancer is only a possibility among many others for hematuria or blood in urine. Given its life threatening potential ( for cancer), has to be ruled out with the understanding that there are many other, more frequent conditions accounting for blood in urine. In practice typically the finding has to be confirmed first with repeat urine studies. Check mayoclinic.org/ hematuria for more info.

Can be harmless, as most cases of microscopic hematuria, but, can occur with interstitial cystitis, various kiden diseases, kidney stones, as well as bladder or kidney tumor. Your Dr. will certainly first reat the urinalysis, which if positive warrants referral to urologist who will advise some tests which may include kidney/bladder ultrasound & cystoscopic examination of bladder.
