Stretching : Keeping the low back stretched is helpful.... The mckenzie method (http://www.Spine-health.Com/wellness/exercise/what-mckenzie-method-back-pain-and-neck-pain) is one i find helpful.

See specialist: Make sure that your pain is from the "discs." most people with "degenerative discs" do not have pain. If the discs are causing pain, spinal stabilization exercises are helpful. Strengthening the hip abductors and extensors with appropriate hip flexor stretching is also often useful (a physical therapist can give you an individualized program). Walking or elliptical are good for cardio.
