A member asked:

Im getting my wisdom removed with local anesthesia. can it cause tongue numbness and throat closing/breathing difficulty? im afraid of this. is the local anesthetic used for wisdom tooth removal the same amount used for dental fillings or more?

For wisdom tooth extraction, dentist has to block the big nerve coming out from the jaw angle, it will numb half of your tongue and cheek but it should not affect your throat or breathing. If you received local anesthetic without problem in the past, i.e. you are not allergic to Lidocaine, you should be OK.

Same anesthetic. It will not cause breathing problems even though half your tongue will be "numb".
