Atrial arrhythmia is common with mitral disease for which I presume you are scheduled for surgery. Fluctuations in the heart ran occur with the combination of mitral disease and atrial arrhythmia. Ablation of atrial arrhythmia can be done during surgery guided by mapping. Since the success rate is variable, a pacemaker may be required to allow maximal medical therapy.
