A member asked:

I'm 17 and today i noticed bumps on the back of my tongue. also my tongue is very white. when i googled it said it's likely to be cancer so now i'm worried. also two days ago i had a covid vaccine so maybe it's from that? or could it be cancer?

The bumps are circumvallate papillae and the white "coating" is related to the filiform papillae. https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/filiform-papilla Not related to covid vaccine or cancer.

Agree with Dr.Davantzis. The risk of this being cancer is very low.

Not due to vaccine, and not cancer, so, Dr Google strikes out again. See your dentist if our comments do not assure you.

Avoid Dr Google as your life may depend on it. Go to uptodate.com and read about the tongue. Then discuss with your Dr. and ask that they look at your tongue. Unless you smoke or chew tobacco and have one so for most of you life the chances of it being cancer is very low. I suspect you may have not looked at your tongue carefully before and are just discovering normal variation.

There are a lot of lymph type tissues on the back of the tongue These can be irritated or swollen from allergies, and possibly by the vaccine. Give it 7-10 days and if it still bothers you go get it checked at an oral surgeon or ENT
