I started working overnights at a hospital and my sleep schedule is just terrible now. is there any prescription i can get to help me sleep once i get out of my shift? currently im averaging 2 hours of sleep a night?

Discuss avoiding caffeine overuse, staying well hydrated and drinking warm milk prior to bedtime with your PCP. If this doesn't help, perhaps a sleep consult may be helpful.

You are likely experiencing a circadian shift work sleep disorder, which may very well respond to a daytime medication which is classically used for narcolepsy. Modafanil or Nuvigil are but two. A sleep specialist and many neurologists have experience in this area.

You feel terrible because you are basically sleep deprived. Working nights is a very big challenge and it really hurts your sleep cycles. There are sleeping medicines you can try, but best to visit a sleep specialist who can get you situated with a good sleep regimen.
