the most likely cause is a swollen lymph gland which may quickly reduce with gentle massaging of the swelling. It could also be in the muscle which would be painful when compressed.

This is brobably a swollen ymph node, and my guess is that you have an infection related to a tooth, probably a wisdom tooth. However, people do ge infections from tonsils which can drain to that rarea too. So what's the recommendation, please go and get checked by your dentist or internist.
