A member asked:

Can you have a sickle cell crisis in a tooth? my dentist states she does not see the cause of my pain in my lower back tooth on the right side.

No: I have never heard of sickle cell crisis, a systemic problem, being localized to a single tooth. Seek consultation with an endodontist who is trained to diagnose and treat intractable tooth pain. If you have been diagnosed w sickle cell anemia you should also be seeing an circulatory specialist.

Referred paim: Due to the nerve branch, you could have referred pain from an upper tooth that you believe is associated from that perfectly fine lower tooth. Go back to your dentist and have all teeth tested for percussion (tapping) and cold sensation.

Doubtful: Some dental issues such as fractures are very hard to diagnose. Does the tooth have a filling or root canal therapy? ssues aren't always immediately seen. Please see an endodontist for further evaluation.
