Can i take prednisone starting at 50 mg/day for 5 days then decreasing until 15 days total with an a1c of 6.0? concerned about steroid induced diabetes. not currently on diabetic meds. due to 8 month continued hearing loss in right ear.thank you?

Yes, steroids can certainly increase serum glucose levels, and cause worsening of diabetes. But does not cause diabetes, and the effect is transient associated with steroid usage. Your HgbA1-C is more in the borderline or prediabetic range, and does not present a huge issue. When you start the steroids, have your doctor periodically check your glucose in blood and urine to be safe.
