Yes, steroids can certainly increase serum glucose levels, and cause worsening of diabetes. But does not cause diabetes, and the effect is transient associated with steroid usage. Your HgbA1-C is more in the borderline or prediabetic range, and does not present a huge issue. When you start the steroids, have your doctor periodically check your glucose in blood and urine to be safe.
