My heart rate while resting jumped suddenly. i checked my bpm and it was 149, and it kept rising until it reached 175. it then began to decrease after an hour, but now it fluctuates between 84-105. i just want to know if this is a medical emergency?

Wonder if this was an episode of a cardiac arrhythmia, such as paroxysmal atrial tachycardia. Would recommend contacting your doctor and describing this. An EKG might be a good start, but would tend to address directly.
