Based on what you have described in your young son with problems breathing, a cough and congestion, he should definitely be seen by a physician as soon as possible. COVID and or other infections are definitely a possibility.

Based on symptoms it looks like your child has viral infection. Not unusual for just starting to attend daycare. During Covid 19 pandemic test should be administered. Is it in the nose or it already got into the chest ? If the nose is a problem due to secretions he or she would breath fairly by mouth. Clean out nasal passages. Administer saline into the nose to help remove secretions.
