A member asked:

I had an instestinal surgery. during this surgery the doctor cut my vagus nerve. i now have gastroperesses . i know that they do multivascular transplants including the stomach. my question is that can my nerve be reconnected? thank you?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends. Neurosurgeons can reconnect some nerves but there may degeneration of the nerve beyond the cut, hence, nothing to reconnect to if too much time passes. Are you sure the nerve was completely severed vs just damaged? Discuss this with the original surgeon then make appointment with a neurosurgeon who may be able to graft repair using an nerve from your foot. Start today, time is wasting.
