Depends on type: Cutaneous fistulas are tracts that drain fluid to the skin - the starting point defines their chacteristic. Enteric fistulas come from the bowel, usually as a result of breakdown of the wall of the intestine. Pancreatic fistulas comes from the disrupted pancreatic duct. Depending on the type of fistula, the treatment will differ. Usually patients are kept npo, i.e. No food and fed by iv.
