A member asked:

What will it take for doctors to do a exploration surgery? they've done every test and nothing..i know something's wrong (stomach pain for 3 years)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seldom done today: With the improvements in diagnostic equipment over the last four decades it is rare for "exploratory" surgery to be done. Abdominal ultrasound, ct or MRI scans along with endoscopy of the upper & lower GI tract have cut down on the need for such a procedure. With no clear idea of what you're looking for, you can be left with a patient recovering from unnecessary surgery & no benefit to the effort.
