Human vs machine!!: A lab test alone does not give you the right answer Margaret ! Talk to your Gastro doctor to interpret the results of ultrasound in relation to your History and Physical Exam. More ever 'ultrasound ' is not an optimal test to evaluate your intestines. Please do not make any frightening assumptions before discussing with the physicians who recommended the ultrasound exam.

Need more info: It is not common for ultrasounds to be used to diagnose intestinal problems. If your clinician is concerned about intestinal malrotation, blockage, etc, then a CT Scan would be more appropriate diagnostic tool.

Colonic redundancy?: Gastroenterologists do describe "colonic redundancy" &/or "tortuosity" as a colonic anatomic variant that makes performing colonoscopy technically more challenging. In such cases, there may be considerable looping & coiling by the colon, that may not translate into colon dysfunction. Such variation can be seen in chronic laxative users & when significant fibrosis/adhesions distort colon anatomy.
