How long does swelling last after resection of small intestine due to blockage? my stomach is still swollen above the incision site. no redness just intermittent pain.. it will be 2 weeks on monday. the surgery was emergency.. thank you so much.?

It really varies depending on many factors. There may be more local trauma since it was an emergency. The best person to answer this is your surgeon who knows your entire situation. But, in general, to completely heal from a surgery like this can take a minimum of 6-8 weeks. So, it is not unusual for you to be having these symptoms after 2 weeks. It should continue to slowly improve over time.

I agree with Dr. F's comments. What was the cause of your blockage? Adhesions from old surgery? What was your status during the postop checkup? Was the surgeon satisfied that there was good intestinal function, no large hematoma, no signs of an early wound infection,no incisional hernia? Be sure to inform the surgeon if you don't see gradual improvement of your symptoms.
