A member asked:

My mother had a skin biopsy that showed melanoma. she mentioned that the doctor said the thickness of cells was very thin and would be removed. how worried should i be? is this correlated with risk of future cancers? thank you?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Melanoma is a serious skin cancer. You mother should be examined at least yearly, or more often if her doctor advises. She should also limit sun skin exposure and use sun blocking agents liberally. That way if future cancers do occur she will catch them early, like this one. A 2006 study found 6% had new melanoma in 1 year and 8% in 2 years, so vigilance is important. Good luck
