My doctor decided to send me for a pet ct scan because my spleen is 19cm. i have a history of portal vein hypertension. havig a pet/ct scan doesn't automatically mean cancer? what could they be looking for due to moderate spleenology?

Splenomegaly: Portal vein hypertension can cause an enlarged spleen. Perhaps your doctor is just being careful to rule out other causes. If you PV hypertension is due to advanced liver disease e.g. cirrhosis, that in itself raises the risk of liver cancer. Your doctor is in by far the best position to answer these questions and surely would be happy to do so. Good luck.
