A member asked:

With my first my water broke during early labor, was having strong contractions but only 1cm dilated. i'm hoping to avoid arom again. what are the chances of my water breaking on it's own again during labor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

AROM in labor ?'s: Artificial rupture of membranes is usually done to stimulate labor, but also of course occurs naturally in most instances during the course of labor. It is not necessarily going to diminish the progress of labor or cause harm to the fetus if there is good application of the presenting fetal part to the internal cervical opening, preventing prolapse of the cord.
