PPIs: That medication is a PPI. We do not design PPIs to be used for long periods of time. They have side effects, rebound acidity after stopping them (preventing people from stopping them) , effects on the kidney (low magnesium), decreased absorption of foods, increased chances of osteoporosis and pneumonia, and gastric polyps. If you have had GERD for years speak to your doctor.
