Why would my gastro doc discourage nissen procedure when i have chronic gerd? i do not have barrett's, but am concerned about that progression. i reflux constantly. is aciphex (rabeprazole) enough to keep esophagus healed?

YOUR DOC IS RIGHT: your doctor is right. Surgery should never be taking lightly. Medication can take care of GERD 90-95% of the cases ,yes aciphex (rabeprazole) can do the job. surgery for GERD is indicated if there is a risk of cancer failure of medical treatment. potential life time use of medication. complication associated with reflux like aspiration that can cause pneumonia, chronic cough.

I suffer from Bile Reflux, I do not respond to PPI's. My gastro does not want to perform surgery as no Barrett's exists, but my throat hurts daily and thats is taking 40 mg Aciphex daily. Should I consider Nissen Fundoplication? This is frustrating.
4 years ago reflux started and lead to non h-pylori gastritis. Quit smoking, I'm not overweight, and quit drinking. Chronic gerd persists. Take 20mg aciphex daily. I reflux drinking water. Anything else I can add medication wise to help avoid cancer
