A member asked:

1/22 went to get together with friend for bday. 1/25 friend had symptoms, 1/26 friend tested positive for covid, 1/26 i had symptoms runny nose, throat mucous, tested negative with rapid test 1/28 and tested negative for pcr 1/29, am i good?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe : May have been too early in the illness for these test to turn positive. Rapid test is very quick but very insensitive (lots of false negatives). PCR is better but “finicky” - lots depends on which commercial assay and handling of the specimen. If still “sick”, repeat PCR tomorrow. If that’s negative also, you likely have a common cold and not coronavirus
