Gastroenterology: A gastroenterologist deals with problems in the gastrointestinal tract which includes the anus, rectum, intestines etc. If your pain is in the buttocks (muscles) but not the anus or rectum, then a gastroenterologist would be the wrong choice. Start with your GP to determine if there is an obvious cause for your buttock pain. You may be able to avoid seeing a specialist.
