Some basics: The oral cavity is lined with areas that include mucus producing glands. The mechanical action of eating sometimes causes the outlet tubes/channels to break, leading to a backup of mucus within a gland that has no outlet. These "mucocoels" sometimes require removal by an oral surgeon.

Need PCP evaluation.: This lesion is probably benign. What it appears to be is a mucocele. This can be surgically removed. It is difficult to not touch the lesion with a finger or your tongue, but I would avoid this.
