Subclinical Herpes: Herpes simplex lives in nerve endings. It may break out in full lesions, or may create subclinical symptoms. Itching is subliminal pain, and may precede the outbreak of new lesions or may simply persist as a focus of discomfort for a while. If it does not go away and is bothersome, there are medications which may help. See your pcp.
