A member asked:

My 68 yrs mom had covid 10 months ago. she recovered ; was treated with hydroxycloroquine and z pack . then a few moths later she developed shingles ( mild case ) now i am reading that there is a high correlation between shingles and ca diagnosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Don't obsess over it: About 1/3 persons will get shingles in their lifetime & the vast majority are over 50 (68%). The common idea is it represents a weakening of the bodies immune surveillance system allowing the hibernating germ to emerge. By itself covid may have triggered a cascade of events that led to this or it might be just from age. A newer vaccine (shingrex) helps avoid it.
