A member asked:

How often is a colonoscopy aborted because of a tortuous sigmoid colon fixed in position, and why? (both adult & pediatric colonoscope could not be advanced past the sigmoid colon despite being put in the supine position w/ multiple diverticula seen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Infrequent: This is not rare, and the procedure can be accomplished via use of virtual "colonoscopy" employing CAT scanning. However, pre-procedure preparation is the same. A gastroenterologist can fully explain the various approaches, answer your questions, and treat necessary complications.
