Local care: A cool compress may be applied. Avoid oils and place your hand under running cool water. Keep the area clean and dry, apply a thin layer of burn first aid cream and antibiotic ointment, Bacitracin to the area. Dress with a clean bandaid and change the bandaid daily. Watch for signs of infection, chest pain, chest pressure, and if these occur, please see acute care right away.

Shock: Thankfully you avoided major injury. Regard this wound as a burn. After the cold applications for pain relief, wash it with warm soap and water, apply an antibacterial ointment, cover loosely with gauze fixed with paper tape. If it blisters, do not pop it. Observe for spreading redness which could indicate a secondary infection requiring oral antibiotics and follow-up by the physician.
