My daughter has round blotches about 6mm in diameter on her back. before we came on holiday they were hardly noticeable, but now that she is sunburned it is clearly visible. shw doesn't have any discomfort from it?

Tinea versicolor: Sounds like t. versicolor, a type of fungus that can appear more commonly in warm humid weather. Though not serious, you should be seen by a dermatologist for eval and possible tx of this disorder, which might include certain washes/shampoos as well as an antifungal cream.
