Complication strep: The complication she is describing, feeling like the skin is sunburned, is a complication of the strep infection. It is caused by the release of certain toxins the bacteria make that causes irritation, rash or peeling of the skin. It sometimes gets worse as you start on antibiotics because the bacteria release it when you kill them. It is not a reaction to the antibiotic. Keep plugging through!

Sun sensitivity: all antibiotics make the skin more sensitive to the sun, but some do more than others. Do you see a rash on her neck? Was she out in the sun since she started the antibiotic? Usually antibiotic sun-related sensitivity usually manifests itself as a sunburn, even in patients who don't normally burn
