Doesn't drop glucose: It is extremely rare for metformin to lower blood sugar below normal since it doesn't increase insulin, it just makes your body more sensitive to it. Maybe your glucose was actually normal. Finger stick glucoses have a 10-20% error and usually read low. Besides, 500 mg of metformin is only half of the usual starting dose. Must be twice daily as only works for 12 hr.
