A member asked:

While cleaning house threw out sewing pin which i had it for more than 1 year. got pricked by it when i put pin in trash in my garage. risk for hiv if pin touched cardboard boxes in trash threw few hrs prior? we have no hiv+ people in-house?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Minuscule risk: Transmission does not occur between inanimate objects (trash to needle). Even if the needle was infected, the chance of infection with a tiny pinprick such as this would be minuscule . Put your mind at ease!
