While cleaning house threw out sewing pin/needle, had this needle for more than 1 year. got pricked by it when i put needle in trash in my garage. risk for hiv if needle somehow got contaminated in trash from contact with boxes threw few hrs prior?

HIV transmission: If the needle was contaminated by blood from an HIV positive person, it could be transmitted by a needle puncturing you. It sounds like a remote possibility but, for peace of mind, you would have to be tested immediately, at 6weeks,3months and6 months to assure negativity.
