See below.: Except for the possible hx of pain (?) i could not glean anything else from your question. Things like numbness, pins/needles in the foot or leg, location and type of pain, any trauma to cause, any skin lesions (like blisters on one side of the body), whether the pain increases with coughing/sneezing etc would be helpful to help DX your problem. Maybe see another ortho/spine doc to get help for it.

ESI: Esi is indicated for arm pain or leg pain associated with a pinched nerve—whether disc herniation, bone spur, or spinal stenosis. Any of these problems usually respond well, at least temporarily, to esi. If you do not have an MRI to confirm, then there is less ability to predict success with this injection. No harm in trying if your doc thinks it might be the spine. Sometimes it is both...
