It depends.: In general "nerve blocks" or ESI (Epidural Steroid Injections) are not performed with "metallic particulates." Unless specifically cleared, MRIs can not be performed in individuals who have metal in their system because the magnet may cause motion or movement of the metal and surrounding tissues damage. Concern regarding a contaminated ESI, should be discussed with the provider who performed ESI
