Usually not problem: 50 micrograms (2000 iu) of vitamin D daily is considered safe for you to take daily. D is one of the few vitamins that can store up in your body & lead to problems. Some medical problems can result in higher than normal D levels. The maximum daily dose that is considered safe is 4000 iu in those with no health issues.

Dosing of vitamin D: Best approach to deal with vitamin D, which is actually not a true vitamin but acts like a hormone, is to monitor blood levels. The best range based on research with multiple sclerosis patients is 50-70 ng/ml. Very high doses seem to correlate with kidney stones and even chronic renal failure. Recommended doses do vary with age.
