Hand pain: I assume there has been no obvious injury. You don't describe what part of the hand is painful on those motions. If you can localize the pain to a joint, arthritis or tendinitis are possibilities. Since symptoms have been present for a month, I think it's time to get a diagnosis by consulting your physician or a hand specialist.

Carpal Tunnel : You definitely need to be checked out by your PCP and possibly a Pain or Orthopedic specilaist for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This can be caused by repetitive work/activity motion. There is usually no pain at rest. A clinical diagnosis can be easily obtained . Aniinflammatories such as Ibuoprofen are the first line of treatment. Steroid injections have proven very useful for this condition as well.
