Genital warts: Your experience is very common and your doctor is partly right: human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, including those that cause genital warts, can be dormant for years and then reactivate. Howver, hormonal change and menopause are not known to trigger reactivation. The reasons are unknown. Everybody gets genital HPV, almos as common in people with few vs many sex partners.
