Calcium score: Calcium score is just a piece of the puzzle. Score of 83 is significant at your age. Also depends upon the family history of vascular diseases, strokes, heart attacks. Your diabetes control, exercise regimen, smoking and alcohol consumption status. Based on these and some other factors your cardiac risk score can be determined and used to assess the need for statins.

Coronary Calcium: Coronary Calcium measures presence of calcified cholesterol in coronary arteries. The number cannot independently tell if cholesterol plaque is obstructive, but DOES tell us that there is coronary atherosclerosis and at higher risk to develop obstructive disease (needing stent or surgery) or heart attack- (risk of heart damage or death). Statin is very important to reduce future disease.
